How we’re spending the new year
We have no markets or events planned for 2025 yet. And while we haven’t been doing markets that long, it still feels weird to not be preparing for them. We’re still working! Just at a much slower pace, which has been (deep breath in) refreshing.
Aaron went back his day job this week, and after Yuli righted the house after having family stay with us over Christmas, it’s now time to get to all our plans for this year! So we thought we’d share a tiny bit of our process. It might not make sense to everyone, but this how our scatter brains keep it all in-line.
First step is writing an idea down in the little black book. There’s snippets of ideas and plans in there from as far back as 2022. These are the very rough ideas, and it’s doubtful anyone but Yuli could make sense of anything in this book.
Next is the R&D book. A recipe is written out, it could be one someone has givcen us or one we found online. We compile about 5-10 different recipes for one thing and see what we like and don’t like about the process and ingredients.
Once in a while this is where we go back to the drawing board when we have a problem with a recipe. Take our Takuan for instance. It wasn’t coming out right for a few batches this Fall, even though we’ve made it for years at this point. A redevelopment happened to get it back on track and this is the notebook it happened in.
This is also the book where we breakdown the cost of producing something and how we find a price to offer it at. Once we are happy and confidant with a recipe it goes into the final notebook.
This is a recipe’s final form. It’s been tested and written clearly enough that anyone could follow it. Yuli is the main cook and canner, but once in a while Aaron has time to step in and make a few things.
So while we wait for markets to start opening up applications in the spring, this is what we’re working on: a garden plan, a bunch of new products, and some highly requested ones!
Wishing everyone peace and joy this year. Happy year of the Snake,
y + a
